Deuteronomy 32:27
27: Had I not feared the wrath of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should misunderstand, Lest they should say, “Our hand is high; And it is not the LORD who has done all this.”
Comment:
Our scripture today is a verse in the midst of verses called The Song of Moses. Moses knew that he was dying and so he spoke to the people in this long story about the Lord.
He talks of the Lord’s frustration with the people because of their unfaithfulness even in the midst of His total faithfulness to them.
In fact, here in this verse, the “fear” that is referenced is actually the Lord’s own fear. The Lord was ready to bring His punishment on the people but did not want the adversaries to twist things and try to make it look like they could destroy God’s people.
Oh, His long suffering, His love for His people, His love for all of us! So long ago He thought of us. Until we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we are the adversary. We are the people who look at all history and watch how God treated the Chosen People. We see His love and faithfulness and hopefully we come closer to Him.
Lord, help me be someone who sees your faithfulness and remains faithful. Thank you for sparing your Chosen People, again and again, to give me the chance to be Chosen too! Amen.
