Joshua 24:14
“Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD!

Comment:

We are coming to the end of the book of Joshua and Joshua is taking a trip down memory lane.  He is going through the history of Israel and reminding the people of all the miracles that God had done for them.

This verse can stand alone as a simple statement of how we should walk through this life, with a reverence for the Lord, sincerity, and truth.  How we should put away other gods and serve the Lord.  Clear direction.

But there’s more (as the TV commercials often tell us)!  The following verse, 15, is one you may have heard before.  In fact, a portion of it is one we have on the wall as a reminder to our family.

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

Joshua told the story of the God’s faithfulness to the Israelites, called them to a higher purpose, but in the end, he made this story personal.  He told those hearing him, that he had made a commitment for himself and his family to serve the Lord.

Lord,  remind me of our family’s commitment to serve you.  We choose this day and every day to make You the focus of our lives, to remember all You have done for us and for all who have gone before us. Amen.
