Ruth 3:11
11: “And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman.”

Comment:

After a very quick trip through Judges we land here in the book of Ruth for just this one passage.  Apparently the Judges and Ruth were quite secure in the Lord and didn’t walk in much fear!

Ruth’s story is one of faithfulness.  Ruth was a Moabite woman who was married to the son of a man, Judah and woman, Naomi.  They had come to Moab when there was a famine in their homeland of Bethlehem.  After her husband and two married sons died Naomi decided to move back to her homeland.  Naomi directed her daughter-in-law’s to stay in Moab since it was their home.  Ruth could not stand to have her go alone and begged for Naomi to allow her to go along.  Verses 16 & 17 record a beautiful speech that Ruth makes telling Naomi that “wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God my God”.    Ruth then travels along with Naomi to Bethlehem.

Our verse for today comes from Naomi’s relative Boaz, who Ruth meets upon arriving in Bethlehem.  Boaz is a wealthy farmer and Ruth goes to work for him during the harvest.  In these times, women without husbands had a very hard life and it was easy to be “fearful” trying to keep going.  But as you see Ruth has found favor with Boaz and the future looks very good!

Ruth is a short little book filled with a beautiful picture of sacrifice, trust and favor. I pray you take the time to read it yourself!

Lord, remind me to be faithful to all You ask, to realize that it is by being faithful I can open the windows of heaven to receive Your blessings and true security.  Amen.
