1 Samuel 12:20
Then Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
Comment:
Today’s verse is Samuel’s response to the Israelites after they realized the error of their ways and tried to ask for the Lord’s mercy. Samuel’s speech reminded them of their rebellion in asking for an earthly king since they couldn’t seem to believe that they had a heavenly king who was taking care of them. Apparently this time the words really sank in to their spirits and they truly wanted to repent. They realized their wicked ways and worried that there was not a way back to the Lord’s blessings.
Ever been there before? Boy I have been. Something draws us off the path that had us walking closely with the Lord. We miss a few days of our time with Him, we get drawn away by work, by family crisis, all important things that take our time. We finally pick up our daily devotional again and find we are 30 days behind, and we throw up our hands, decide to sleep in, and miss church another Sunday.
We finally hear a friend’s reminder, a song, a sermon that reminds us of our true love for the Lord and we truly want to return but now we fear He won’t take us back! Oh, hallelujah, such is not the case! He is ready to receive us if we will just “serve Him” with all our heart!
Lord, I know I have done wicked deeds, have been drawn away from Your perfect path for me, but I do truly repent. I desire to turn back to your path, to serve You with all my heart from this day forward. Amen.
