Joshua 10:8
8: And the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.”
Comment:
Today’s passage is a continuation of the story that was told yesterday. The men of Gibeon had heard about the kings of the area getting together to go to battle with them. They were very fearful and called to Joshua who was away at Gilgal and begged him to return quickly and “not forsake them” but to “come up quickly, save us and help us.”
In our verse today, the Lord promises Joshua not only that He will help with this battle, but in fact the Lord has already delivered them into his hand! When you read on to “the rest of the story” you see how the Lord accomplishes the task. In fact some of the following verses include the great story of how Joshua actually asked the Lord to make the “Sun, stand still”! The Lord heard his cry and did in fact, make not only the sun but also the moon stand still.
Joshua 10:14 says “and there has been no day like that, before it or after it….for the Lord fought for Israel.” Wow!
I know without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord has fought for me many times. It may not have been the sun and the moon standing still, but many other natural things have been affected by Him in order to “deliver” my enemies into my hands.
I believe that what the Lord can do for Joshua , He can do for me and you! I don’t know about you, but I forget to ask Him to help me when I need His help. I so often try to do things by myself, only to finally have to cry out to His intervention.
Lord, remind me to always stay close, remember how much easier it is to ask Your help, right from the start. You want to do for me what you have done for those who have gone before me. I just forget to ask! Amen.
