I have always consider myself very openminded. After all I was a hippie, lived through the age of Aquarius and all it's paraphenalia...but I continue to be stretched by my many children's choices. I often pray to have my boundaries stretched so I guess it makes sense. Well, last year one of my boy's broke the ice and got the first tattoo...obviously mom had lost control. Lot's of soul searching took place and the realization that I wasn't in control. Always a good lesson to chew on.
Well, that tattoo was apparently only the first of many for my family. Had two more since that one. I guess they are kind of like grandchildren, could be lots and lots (we are already at 17 grandchildren and only half have children, so...)
Anyway, back to the point, our Jeremiah was in LA mixing his band's (themanchesterorchestra.com) newest album. He had an opportunity to get a tattoo at LA Ink, (the TV show place). I probably would have been tempted as well. Apparently, one of his dreams since he saw one at 14 was to get a neck tattoo. (Oh where do they get this rebellious streak?) So he sends the messages over twitter as he is having the procedure done and again I am challenged to be an unconditional, non-judgemental mother!
Jeremiah came back to town the other night and even though it was going to be late I had to go see him and touch his tattoos. (That mom thing never ends) Of course, he is fine with his now forever very visible birds on his neck. I asked him why he got birds. His answer was one every mom can appreciate.
A little background, he loves everything that represents the sea, old ships and sea stories and more. He said that old seafarers used to have birds tattoed on their neck to show people that their hearts were at home and they were always ready to fly there. Birds are faithful he said so he wanted that to show. Okay, yeah I am crying again. How can you argue with something that is that precious and that thoughtful?
I did tell him he best do well in the music business as the whole rest of the world will probably not be as understanding...he said the lady at the desk at LA Ink said the same thing!!!
But again I am reminded, I am not in control, and neither is he. We both need to pray that each of our decisions is in line with the path that we have been given to walk. Then all will work together for good!
Thanks for reading.
How about your challenges to open your mind?
More later.
